Balance Obsessed

I’m Brittany Erway Soto, founder of The BalancePoint Group.

My relationship with balance began in 1995, the day I first stepped onto a four-inch balance beam in a small Alabama town. Learning to move confidently across something so narrow became both the pursuit of my youth and a lasting metaphor for my life and work.

Growing up, I navigated a panic disorder and the isolation of being labeled the “kid with issues.” At school, I was often underestimated; in the gym, I was recognized for my potential. That contrast shaped a lifelong commitment to helping people understand their own capacity—especially within systems that don’t always see or support it.

Those experiences led me into over a decade of work in public education reform, where I served as a teacher, instructional coach, and ultimately a school principal. Across roles, I wrestled with the same tension: how to bring full humanity to the work while still delivering real, measurable impact.

In 2019, a coach introduced me to a concept that changed everything: self as instrument. I came to understand that leadership isn’t just about tools or strategies—it’s about presence, awareness, and how we show up inside complex systems. That insight led me to pursue my Master’s in Organization Development from Pepperdine University, building on my earlier Master’s in Education, to deepen my understanding of how people and systems shape one another.

Today, I work as a coach, facilitator, and organizational development consultant across the nonprofit and for-profit sectors. I support leaders and organizations facing cultural strain, misalignment, or persistent inefficiencies—often where adaptive human needs and technical systems have fallen out of balance. My work focuses on leadership development, organizational culture, team effectiveness, and organizational design.

At the core of my work is the belief that humanity and efficiency are not competing choices, but interconnected forces. Humanity—the adaptive side of work—creates trust, learning, and resilience. Efficiency—the technical side—creates clarity, reliability, and scale. Organizations thrive when both are in balance. I help leaders design the psychological and structural conditions that allow people to take risks, do meaningful work, and perform at a high level without sacrificing their agency, health, or humanity.

With 26 years balancing on beams—and a lifetime of finding balance in far more complex arenas—I’d love to be your guide. Let’s get to work.
